When a local woman went to the house at 1801 Stinson Avenue Tuesday evening, she thought she was helping thirty six year old Heidi Carter clean the residence. Carter’s boyfriend, Carey Hammond and others were there as well. After helping clean a couple of rooms, they ordered pizza.

According to an arrest affidavit filed against Carter, when the woman went into another room to eat the pizza, she sat down on what she thought was a pile of blankets and pillows. She panicked when she realized that a man's body was rolled up inside the blankets. She eventually escaped from the house and flagged down an ISP trooper.

When Evansville police arrived, they shot one of the suspects who refused to comply with their commands and who displayed an object that looked like a handgun.

When police were able to get inside, they found a female victim restrained and shackled in the residence. She was taken to a local hospital. Two teenage juveniles, a boy and a girl were found upstairs in the residence and were not harmed during the incident.

According to the affidavit, Carter and the female victim had met on a dating app. The victim and her boyfriend were invited to the residence, where they took drugs and engaged in sexual activity.

When Hammond returned to the residence and observed the activity, he became angry and began beating both victims with a baseball bat. Hammond and Carter tied up both victims. Hammond raped the woman multiple times and eventually strangled the man with a belt after beating him over the course of several hours.

Carter faces numerous charges, including murder, rape and criminal confinement. She is in the Vanderburgh County Jail without bail.
