Man Surrenders After Police Standoff

File

An early morning standoff on Evansville’s West Side ended with a man in custody.

Police were dispatched to a home in the 800 block of Hess Avenue, near Maryland St., in reference to a man with a gun.

The female victim told officers the suspect, later identified as 30-year-old Chase Melton, had a gun, was threatening to kill her, and had already assaulted her.

In a release, the EPD said the woman had visible, but non-life-threatening, injuries.

Police said Melton initially refused to come out of the house, but officers were able to talk Melton into coming outside about 45 minutes later.

He was taken into custody and booked into the Vanderburgh County jail on charges of Domestic Battery, Strangulation, Intimidation, and Pointing a Firearm.
