A number of people are displaced after an apartment fire in Evansville.

They found a bedroom fire in a first floor two-bedroom apartment.

In a release, EFD Division Chief Mike Larson said crews extinguished the fire in about 20 minutes.

Larson said the blaze caused significant heat and smoke damage to the apartment of origin, and smoke spread to several other apartments in the building.

EFD crews helped one occupant of an upstairs apartment get out of building. Others got out on their own.

The apartment were the fire started was home to two adults, five kids, and one dog that firefighters rescued

Larson said those residents and three occupants of an upstairs apartment were displaced.

The Red Cross was notified and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

No injuries were reported.
