A Posey County deputy is in critical condition after being shot while answering a call for a welfare check in New Harmony Saturday evening.
Forty one year old Bryan Hicks is in Deaconess Midtown Hospital with a single gunshot wound to the head, suffered during the incident Saturday evening in New Harmony.
According to a release from Indiana State Police, deputies and the New Harmony town marshal arrived at the home of seventy year old Paul Wiltshire, who is a former New Harmony town marshal, just before seven p.m. Saturday.
They say while the officers were still outside the home, Wiltshire began shooting at them. The officers returned fire. During the exchange, Deputy Hicks was shot once in the head.
Wiltshire was hit multiple times when they returned fire. He was also taken to Deaconess Midtown Hospital. His condition was not released.
No charges have been filed in the case. Indiana State Police say the investigation is continuing.
