Highway 41 and I-69 Reopened After Spill in Henderson

File

The southbound Henderson Strip and I-69, south of Henderson, have both reopened after what officials called a “major chemical spill.”

In a release, Henderson Police said the leak came from a commercial vehicle traveling southbound on Highway 41 late Thursday night.

The HPD said the vehicle was eventually stopped and the leak contained but crews had to clean up the spill from the base of the Twin Bridges to near Robards.

By 6:00 Friday morning, the cleanup was finished in Henderson but the work south of the city lasted until nearly midday.

Southbound traffic on I-69 was detoured for several hours between Kentucky 425 and Kentucky 416.

There was no word on the type of chemical or of any environmental damage.
