A chase through Evansville’s east side into Warrick County and back again kept police busy Monday morning.
Just after 11am Monday, officers with the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Drug Task Force attempted to stop a black pickup truck on the Lloyd Expressway near Harrison High School. The truck was being driven by forty four year old Roger Dale Hoops, Jr. of Mt. Vernon.
Hoops was wanted on charges of possession of methamphetamine.
According to a release from the Vanderburgh County sheriff’s office, Hoops took off and headed into Warrick County. He eventually turned around and headed back into Evansville, ending up near the University of Evansville, where police broke off the pursuit.
Hoops then took off on foot. He was caught in the backyard of a nearby home with the help of Evansville police. Hoops did not try to enter any buildings at UE, although officials notified UE and nearby Memorial High School as a precaution.
In addition to the earlier drug charges, Hoops now faces resisting law enforcement and reckless driving charges.
