Several of the more than twenty speakers told the seven member panel that current district boundaries do not reflect the population and lead to disparities in representation.

One example came from Posey County Democratic Chair Ed Adams. Adams said the way the lines are currently drawn for Indiana House District 76 and Senate District 49 effectively eliminates any chance Posey County residents have to select their representation.

“If every registered voter in Posey County were to vote Democrat, there’s no way that we can override the Republican leaning people in Vanderburgh County. There’s no way to win.”

Speakers also asked the panel to hold more public hearings after the 2020 census data is received and new maps are drawn, and before they’re voted on by the Indiana legislature.
