Police have arrested a Mt. Vernon man accused of leading officers on a high-speed chase.

Indiana State Police say a sergeant patrolling Diamond Avenue near Detroy Road Tuesday afternoon attempted to stop the driver of a speeding pickup truck.

In a release, the ISP said the driver -- who was later identified as 40-year-old Joseph Davis -- didn’t stop and drove north on State Road 65 reaching speeds of nearly 90 miles-an-hour before turning west on #6 School Road.

Police say Davis turned into a driveway, drove through a yard, and then stopped near Neu Road -- where he got out and fled into a wooded area.

The ISP says troopers searched the area for about 90 minutes before they found Davis hiding in a barn.

An ambulance took Davis to Deaconess Midtown where he was treated and released for heat exhaustion.

Police said Davis was wanted on two warrants in Vanderburgh County.

They took him to the county jail, where he was being held without bond.
