Patoka Marina Fire Ruled Accidental

File

Investigators say a fire that damaged or destroyed 22 boats at Patoka Lake was accidental in nature.

In a release, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources said the probe into the February blaze at Hoosier Hills Marina concluded it was most likely caused by an electrical malfunction.

Indiana Conservation Officers and the Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office investigated the fire that caused an estimated $2.5 million in damage.

The blaze started in one boat and spread to others.

Authorities said marina staff tried to put out the fire. They removed two boats from the docks, which created a fire break.

Nobody was injured.

Numerous agencies battled the blaze.
