Evansville police officers are mourning the loss of a four-legged friend.

In a release, the EPD announced the passing of the K9, Abot.

The department said Abot had been faithfully serving the citizens of Evansville for more than seven years, alongside his human officer.

The EPD said Abot was observed suffering from a medical condition this week and was rushed to the Vet.

The police dog was then taken to a specialist in Louisville, where it was determined Abot had several tumors around his heart and spleen, causing internal bleeding.

The EPD said the dog had to be euthanized and was laid to rest near his brother, K9 Bobi, at the K9 Cemetery.
