It will be called CenterPoint Energy Square. Construction will be coordinated with the two major adjacent renovation projects scheduled to start next year.

Downtown Evansville Development Corporation Executive Director Candace Chapman says there will be something for everyone.

“We’ll have yoga and music in the park and the farmer’s market, and hopefully, someday we’ll be ice skating on Main Street too. It’s going to be an active place.”

Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke says they’ll know more in the next few weeks about the exact timeline for demolition of the two buildings to make way for a new mixed use development downtown. He said demolition could take place this fall.
