The announcement from the Indiana Department of Transportation Thursday details over a hundred million dollars in grants statewide.

Over a dozen communities and countiesin Southwestern Indiana will get matching funds for local road projects under the Community Crossings grants.

The amounts will range from about $69,000 for the town of New Harmony to a million dollars each for Gibson, Posey and Knox Counties. Vanderburgh County will receive just over a quarter million dollars under the grant, with Warrick County receiving about $350,000.

A release from INDOT says the Community Crossings initiative has provided nearly a billion dollars in state matching funds for local road projects since 2016. Communities submitted proposals in January. Projects were evaluated based on need, current conditions and impacts to safety and economic development.

INDOT Commissioner Joe McGuinness said in the release that the matching grants allow local communities to tackle major road projects more quickly than they could otherwise.
