Authorities say a man accused of fleeing police caused a serious crash in northern Vanderburgh County.
The Evansville Police Department attempted to stop a pickup truck for a traffic infraction near the intersection of Morgan Avenue and Oak Hill Road at about 10:40 Wednesday morning.
The driver, later identified as Michael Johnson, sped away and the decision was made to not pursue.
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says about 15 minutes later, a deputy was searching for the suspect in the area of Darmstadt Road and Mohr Road when his patrol car was nearly hit by Johnson’s truck.
In a release, the sheriff’s office said by the time the deputy caught up to the speeding pickup, it had hit an SUV on Darmstadt near Mt. Pleasant Road.
Johnson and the two occupants of the SUV were taken to hospitals with what the sheriff’s office called serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
Investigators say drugs and alcohol are suspected factors in the crash.
