Authorities are investigating another suspicious fire on Evansville’s North Side.

Firefighters were dispatched to 2226 N Fares Ave. at about 3:30 Tuesday afternoon after reports from multiple callers of black smoke coming from a building.

Firefighters arrived and quickly found and extinguished the flames, but in a release, Division Chief Mike Larson said it took “considerable time” to ventilate the structure and check for any fire extension.

Larson said the building was being used for temporary storage of household items and not as an active office.

The blaze was in the same block of another suspicious fire one week ago, in which fire crews extinguished a large trash fire between a Dumpster and an out building on the Huck’s convenience store lot.

In both cases, the EPD was called to the scene for an arson report.
