Fire that Damaged Two Homes an Apparent Accident

File

Three people and a dog escaped a fire that damaged two houses in Evansville.

When firefighters arrived at 710 E. Florida St. Wednesday morning, they found large amounts of fire coming from windows on the eastside of the house, spreading to the house next door at 712 E. Florida.

A district chief called for extra firefighters and crews extinguished the flames in about 45 minutes.

In a release, Division Chief Mike Larson said three occupants of 710 E. Florida were sleeping on the first floor and woke to the sight of flames in the dining area.

Larson said they all got out of the house on their own along with their dog.

The owner said they were in the midst of cleaning and remodeling the house. The fire was believed to have been an accident.

The Red Cross was called to help the residents.
