EPD: Thieves Stole Money Containers from ATM

File

There was another attempt to steal money from a local ATM over the weekend, and this time the thieves were successful.

Evansville Police say it happened Saturday morning at United Fidelity Bank off the West Lloyd Expressway.

In a release, the EPD said officers responded to an alarm at the bank at 4:45 a.m. and the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to a pickup truck dragging something behind it.

Police said when officers arrived at the bank they found a destroyed ATM and all the money cassettes taken from it.

Sheriff’s deputies found the pickup truck a short distance from the scene with chains still on it.

Officers and deputies set up a perimeter and a K9 searched but they didn’t find the culprits.

The truck owner was contacted at his home and he advised that his truck had been stolen.

The incident followed an attempted ATM theft outside the Heritage Federal Credit Union at 4920 Vogel Road, on February 22nd.

Central Dispatch said the suspects in that case pulled the ATM from its base but were unable to steal it. They left the machine on the parking lot.

Anyone with information on either incident is asked to contact Evansville Police detectives at 812-436-7979 or the WeTip Line at 800-78-CRIME.
