The National Weather Service has issued its latest advisory on the winter storm headed our way.
In a special briefing Tuesday afternoon, National Weather Service forecasters at Paducah say the biggest danger is from freezing rain Tuesday night into Thursday. The heaviest accumulations will be south and west of Evansville, with over a quarter inch of ice accumulation possible in Madisonville and to the south.
The forecast for most of the WNIN listening area is about a tenth of an inch of ice. The arrival of the freezing rain and drizzle will be during the morning commute Wednesday and freezing rain or drizzle is possible all day Wednesday. Meteorologist Derrick Snyder describes the main impacts of the storm
“We’re not expecting anything like a devastating ice storm, but we could see some scattered power outages and tree damage. We’re definitely expecting treacherous road conditions everywhere.”
Any ice that does accumulate could stay awhile. After this weather event, we’re going to see some of the coldest temperatures in the past few years, with temperatures near zero overnight Sunday.
