A Jasper man is dead after being hit by a tractor-trailer on I-64.

It happened Tuesday afternoon on the interstate near Dale.

In a release, Indiana State Police said 46-year-old Charles Copeland of Evansville was driving a Freightliner semi westbound, when he changed lanes and hit a pedestrian on the highway.

Authorities identified the pedestrian as 67-year-old Gerald Kluemper of Jasper.

The ISP said Kluemper had parked his vehicle on the shoulder of the Interstate, exited his vehicle, and entered the lanes of traffic.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

It’s not clear why Kluemper was in the traffic lanes.

The ISP said their investigation is ongoing.
