A group of students, faculty, and alumni of the University of Evansville lined Lincoln Avenue for two hours Sunday to protest the schools realignment plan.
Several dozen people, including a few families, held signs and waved to vehicles driving by the university. Marisa Jones is a UE alum who is married to a faculty member whose position would be cut in the proposed academic realignment.
“We feel the liberal arts mission is being cut and diminshed by these cuts.”
A main sticking point for faculty in the realignment plan continues to be the school’s promise that current students would be able to finish in their majors. Daniel Byrne is the secretary-treasurer of the UE chapter of the American Association of University Professors.
“There is no plan on their part, to really deal with the students who are here at the freshman and sophomore level.”
Byrne says UE administrators this week presented a preliminary budget plan for next year to the faculty senate that shows a $4 million deficit.
