All faculty at the University of Evansville have now cast their votes on the school’s proposed academic realignment plan.
After tallying the votes following the Christmas Day voting deadline at UE, the full faculty endorsed the faculty senate's earlier vote of no confidence in the draft realignment plan proposed by UE president Christopher Pietruszkiewicz. According to a release from the UE chapter of the American Association of University Professors, the vote was 106 to 19, with three abstentions.
The release goes on to say that the president’s draft plan does not recognize the faculty’s role in shared governance and is not in line with the university’s policies on curricular change.
The results of the vote will now be presented to Pietruszkiewicz, with a request for a written response within seven days.
In a related move, the faculty senate at the University of Southern Indiana released a statement of support for the UE faculty. The statement says, in part, “We believe that unilateral decision making that ignores shared governance in institutions of higher education seriously risks compromising the ability of universities to provide quality higher education for the betterment of everyone in the community and the region. “
