In a release, the EPD said officers were dispatched to the 400 block of E. Buena Vista at about 9:00 Thursday morning in regards to a two-year-old not breathing.

Police said the first officer to arrive found the baby girl unresponsive and started CPR until Evansville firefighters arrived a short time later.

Firefighters assessed the child and called off any further life saving measures.

Police quoted the child’s father as saying they had gone to a store the night before and after arriving back home, he put his daughter to bed at about 9:30 p.m.

In the morning, when he went in to check on her, he found her unresponsive.

The EPD said detectives are investigating the death. The Department of Child Services was also called to the scene.

There’s no word yet on the child or the father’s identity.
