With federal approval of a second coronavirus vaccine apparently imminent, Vanderburgh County health officials say they’re expecting shipments of the Moderna vaccine soon after approval.
During their regular meeting held over video conference Thursday afternoon, county health officer Dr. Ken Spear told the health board that they have freezers ready to store the vaccine, which does not require the type of freezers needed for the initial Pfizer vaccine.
Spear said the Indiana Department of Health will advise him when the Moderna vaccine is delivered how soon they can start giving the immunizations and who will get them.
Spear said, “We’re going to follow the IDOH guidelines, and they’ll give us guidelines once we get the vaccine. We’ll have to stick to those guidelines.”
The state health department has said that the first rounds of coronavirus vaccine are being given to frontline health care workers and nursing home residents.
