After Deaconess Health System officials announced their concern over the recent spike in COVID cases in the area, WNIN News learned the possible reason for that warning.
When Deaconess officials made the announcement Tuesday afternoon about their concern over a recent spike in coronavirus cases locally, it was a few hours after they had to divert COVID cases to other facilities because Deaconess had reached its capacity to treat coronavirus patients.
Deaconess would not make a spokesperson available for comment Wednesday, but in an email, they said that Deaconess was diverting new patients for what they called ‘a few hours’ overnight Monday. The email confirmed that the reason for the diversion was high COVID patient census.
A news release from Deaconess Tuesday said that facility alone had over 200 positive tests in each of the past six days and warned that could mean hospitals in Southwest Indiana will reach or exceed their capacity to treat COVID patients in the next few weeks.
