Evansville Teen Killed in Crash on SR 57

File

Wet pavement may have been a factor in a crash on State Road 57 that killed an Evansville teen.

The Vanderburgh County Coroner has identified the victim as 16-year-old Lillian Gardner.

Coroner Steve Lockyear said an autopsy for Gardner was planned for Friday afternoon.

The crash happened Thursday afternoon on 57 between Boonville-New Harmony Road and Kansas Road.

In a release, the sheriff’s office said the crash involved an SUV driven by a 62 year old woman and a smaller SUV driven by Gardner.

Deputies determined Gardner died at the scene.

A preliminary investigation indicated the SUV driven by the girl crossed the center line and skidded sideways on wet asphalt and collided with the other SUV.

AMR took the driver of the other vehicle to a hospital.

Based on a preliminary investigation, deputies don’t believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
