File

The University of Southern Indiana is touting a record number of graduate students, while the overall number of students has fallen.

USI said graduate and undergraduate enrollment this fall totals just over 8,500 – a drop of 2.1% from last year.

The university reported undergraduate enrollment of 6,739.

More than 1,760 students enrolled in in masters and doctoral programs, which USI said is nearly 15% higher than fall of 2019.

In a release, USI President Ron Rochon said growth in professional programs shows the university’s commitment to “diversifying educational offerings.”

Rochon also noted USI is navigating a “new reality shaped in part by COVID-19.”

He said the university is “eager to adapt that experience to benefit each student as an individual.”
