Coroner: 3 People Killed in Fiery U.S. 41 Crash

File

Three people are dead after a fiery crash on Highway 41 in Evansville.

The tragedy happened at about 2:15 Monday afternoon on 41 at Covert Avenue.

In a release, Evansville Police Sgt. Nick Winsett said a pickup truck traveling northbound slammed into an SUV that was either stopped or slowed down for the intersection in front of the truck.

Upon impact, the truck burst into flames.

Winsett said two good Samaritans were able to free the driver from the pickup but were unable to rescue the occupants of the SUV, because of the intense flames.

Vanderburgh County Coroner Steve Lockyear said three people died in the SUV but all of their identities hadn’t been determined as of Monday evening.

An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

The EPD asks anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the Detective Office at 812-436-7979.
