Teacher Hit in School Zone

File

Evansville Police are reminding drivers to be careful in school zones, after a teacher was hit by a pickup truck.

Police were dispatched to the 7300 block of Lincoln Ave., in front of Plaza Park School, at about 7:15 Monday morning.

In a release, the EPD said officers found an EVSC teacher had been struck by a small truck while helping children cross Lincoln.

EPD Sgt. Nick Winsett said the driver was traveling at a low rate of speed and the teacher was not seriously injured.

AMR took her to a hospital to be checked for minor bumps and bruises.

Winsett said the glare of the sun made it difficult for the driver to see the teacher in the roadway and was not ticketed.

Still, Winsett said it’s a reminder to slow down when traveling through school zones and watch for pedestrians -- especially before and after school.
