Local and federal law enforcement officials are celebrating a big drug bust.

U.S. Attorney Josh Minkler told reporters at the Federal Building in Downtown Evansville that investigators have dismantled a Tijuana, Mexico-based drug cartel.

Minkler said authorities confiscated huge quantities of meth and fentanyl that were to be sold in the Evansville area…

"123 pounds of methamphetamine, 769 grams of fentanyl, 114 fentanyl pills. It was brought here through vehicles, thorugh commercial airlines, shipped by FedEx, the Postal Service, and UPS.”

Minkler said nine suspects from across the country are in custody and authorities are seeking two cartel leaders that are believed to be in Mexico.

DEA Assistant Special Agent Mike Gannon called the investigation a “big win” and delivered a warning...

"For all you drug traffickers out there that are going to continue to do this, keep looking over your shoulder because we're coming and we're going to hold you accountable."

Minkler said the suspects tried to profit from people’s drug addictions.

He said authorities are sympathetic to those who are addicted and he urged addicts to “seek help.”
