Unsolicited Ballot Applications Causing Confusion

IN.GOV

Both major political parties are mailing the applications to voters.

Vanderburgh County Clerk Carla Hayden says that mass mailings being sent out by both major political parties are creating a bit of a headache for her office.

In a release, Hayden says that some voters who received unsolicitied absentee applications in the mail thought they were from the election office.  Hayden says the clerk’s office only sends out absentee ballot applications if voters request one.

Hayden says if voters want to vote in person, they can simply ignore the unsolicited absentee applications. If they want to vote by mail and have not already submitted a request for an application, they can complete the unsolicited one and mail it to the clerk’s office.

Hayden stressed that, “No matter how many applications a voter submits, they will receive only one ballot.”

If you would like to vote by mail, you can have an application mailed to you by calling the clerk's office at 812.435.5122.  Regardless of the source, absentee ballot applications must be received in the Election Office no later than 11:59 p.m. on October 22, 2020.
