The Tri-State Food Bank says the pandemic will likely increase the need for hunger relief.
September is Hunger Action Month and the Food Bank says it’s joining Feeding America food banks nationwide to raise awareness of food insecurity and to inspire people to take action.
In a release, the non-profit says hunger affects more than 114,000 people in our region and the impact of COVID-19 could boost that number beyond 158,000.
The Tri-State Food Bank has activities planned, including four Drive Thru Food Drives at Eastland Mall.
The contact-free events are planned for the former Chili’s parking lot in front of the mall on Friday September 4th, Wednesday September 9th, Thursday September 17th, and Friday September 25th.
Donations of non-perishables will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
And Meijer’s will help raise money with Double Match Days on Friday September 11th, and Saturday September 12th.
The retailer will double match every monetary donation made.
