The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says a wanted man is in custody after becoming stuck in a chimney.

In a release, the sheriff’s office said authorities were serving an arrest warrant in the 800 block of E. Riverside on Thursday, looking for 29-year-old Cody Sargent.

He was wanted for violating the terms of his probation from a drug dealing conviction.

The sheriff’s office says Sargent hid and tried to escape by climbing up a fireplace chimney but became stuck about three-quarters the way up.

Evansville firefighters had to be called, and they partially dismantled the chimney to rescue Sargent.

He was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was later booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail without bond.
