Dogs in Vehicle May Have Contributed to Fatal Crash

File

An Evansville man is dead and another person is injured after a crash on the North Side.

The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office says 60-year-old Abelardo Hernandez died in the crash at Lynch and Maxx roads.

It happened at about 5:20 Thursday morning, injuring both drivers.

In a release, EPD Sgt. Nick Winsett said one of the drivers was taken to a hospital while Hernandez had to be extricated from the wreckage.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday evening.

Police say the driver who went to the hospital had "multiple dogs" in his vehicle and Animal Control was called to collect them.

Winsett said a preliminary investigation suggested the dogs may have distracted the driver contributing to the crash.
