The recent local spike in coronavirus cases has local officials worried and taking action.
Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke says he will issue an executive order this week making face coverings mandatory in an attempt to stop the spike in coronavirus cases here.
The Evansville City Council is scheduled to take up a mask ordinance Monday evening and at a news conference last Friday, Evansville Vanderburgh Superintendent Dr. David Smith said school starts in three and a half weeks. In a You Tube video of the news conference, Dr. Smith said.
“I’ve also said recently and frequently, that the successful reopening of the EVSC schools is going to be dependent upon the successful precautions that everyone in our community takes.”
Mayor Winnecke’s executive order would take effect Wednesday. More details on the mask order for Evansville are expected to be released this week.
