An investigation is underway after fire damaged two houses and displaced five people in Evansville.
Firefighters were dispatched to the 1100 block of S. Grand early Sunday, when a neighbor heard popping outside and then saw the fire.
In a release, Division Chief Mike Larson says the blaze apparently started in stacks of wood in a yard between a garage and a vacant home at 1102 S Grand.
Larson said the fire spread from the yard to the vacant house and an adjacent home at 1104 S Grand.
He said fighting the fire was difficult because of numerous items stored in 1102 S Grand and in the attic of 1104 S Grand.
Five adults were displaced from 1104 S Grand and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
