Brown Sentenced for Hughes Murder

File

An Evansville man has been sentenced to 65 years in prison after confessing to a murder.

Vanderburgh County Superior Court Judge Robert Pigman sentenced 39-year-old Brandon Brown for killing Corey Hughes.

In a release, the prosecutor’s office said Brown pleaded guilty as charged to Murder and being a Habitual Offender.

Hughes was found wounded inside his home in the 600 block of East Maryland Street in June 2019. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

During the investigation, police said Brown admitted he went to Hughes’ house with a gun the morning of the murder because Hughes owed him money.

Prosecutor Nick Hermann praised Evansville Police Detectives who secured what he called “overwhelming amounts of evidence which pointed to the defendant’s guilt.”
