The statewide jobless rate was worse than Evansville’s – topping 17 percent.
The number of unemployed Hoosiers ballooned from less than 105,000 to more than 550,000.
The U.S. Labor Department put the nation’s April jobless rate at 14.4 percent, with more than 22 million people unemployed due to COVID-19 shutdowns.
