Alumni of over a dozen colleges and universities will get the chance to show their school spirit while raising money for the local coronavirus response.
The fan bases of 14 colleges and universities can compete in what’s known as the “Battle of the Fans COVID-19 College Challenge.” The commissioner is Evansville City Councilman Ben Trockman. He says the idea came out of a discussion with a couple of organizers of the COVID-19 Crisis Response Fund of the Greater Evavnsville Region.
“A few weeks ago Bill Bussing and Bob Jones reached out to me. They were looking for something creative to involve more people and more minds if you will thinking about the COVID-19 emergency response fund.”
Trockman says they hope to raise the remainder of the $6 million local goal. The fund is currently at just under $5 million.
“If we can make a significant dent in that one million dollar gap, I think we’re gonna’ achieve victory. That’s the idea.”
Trockman says once the website www.Battleofthefans.us goes live Wednesday afternoon, fans can make donations that will go toward their school’s total. The contest will run for four weeks starting May 27th.
According to a release from Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke, the schools participating in the competition and their respective champions are:
