The COVID-19 crisis has claimed Evansville’s Independence Day fireworks display.
The Downtown Evansville Economic Improvement District has announced the 2020 Fireworks on the Ohio celebration has been cancelled.
In a release, EID President Josh Armstrong said the last two-plus months have impacted many potential sponsors.
Armstrong also said the July 4th event could only proceed if ongoing ‘gating’ requirements are met, and the group is unable to predict the future rates of COVID-19 infections.
He said the district is concerned about the safety of attendees, first responders, exhibitors, and volunteers in an environment where social distancing would be “impossible to manage.”
Armstrong said the EID is already looking ahead to the 2021 Fireworks on the Ohio.
