Vanderburgh County authorities say the deaths of a mother and child in their home were a homicide-suicide.

A family member found 49-year-old Kimbra Shanafelt and her daughter, five-year-old Dahni Shanafelt, dead inside their home on Bob Court Drive April 22nd.

The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office says results of toxicology tests indicate both died of carbon monoxide inhalation.

In a release, Coroner Steve Lockyear said his office and the Sheriff’s Office have ruled the mother’s death a suicide and the child’s death a homicide.

The Sheriff's Office said the Shanafelts were found in separate parts of the home.
