Officer Fatally Shoots Man in Pike County

File

Indiana State Police are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in Pike County.

It happened Sunday afternoon at the home of 69-year-old Michael Faries in the  7800 block of South Meridian Road.

In a release, the ISP said Pike County Dispatch received a call from Faries, saying he and his wife were starving and someone was shooting at them.

A Pike County Sheriff’s Deputy and a Petersburg Police Officer responded to the home and were greeted by Faries’ wife, who refused to let them in.

Officers instructed her that since Faries contacted 911 they had to check on his well-being.

Within seconds after officers entered the home, a Pike County Sheriff’s Deputy discharged his firearm and struck Faries.

Officers administered CPR until EMS arrived, but Faries was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pike County Coroner’s Office.

A handgun was recovered and detectives could not substantiate any information concerning someone shooting at the Faries’ prior to police arriving.

The ISP said the identity of the officers involved will be released later this week.
