An early morning fire destroyed a camper and damaged two homes on Evansville’s Northeast Side.
Firefighters were dispatched to the 5400 Block of N. Burkhardt Road shortly after 2:00 this (Wed) morning.
The first crew to arrive found a detached garage on fire.
In a release, Evansville Fire Department Division Chief Mike Larson said extra crews were called to the scene due to a lack of nearby fire hydrants.
The address is outside the city limits but the EFD provides fire protection in that area.
Larson said heat and fire damaged the exteriors of homes on either side of the garage.
He said a 30-foot camper was destroyed in the blaze.
No one was injured. The Red Cross was called to assist both families.
Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s deputies helped control traffic.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
