Dubois County announced its first confirmed COVID-19 case over the weekend. Since the diagnosis, officials have been tracking the patient’s previous contacts and movements in hopes of learning more about the disease.
After announcing the first suspected case of COVID-19 in Dubois County over the weekend, officials later confirmed it and started checking with the patient’s previous close contacts.
In a release Monday afternoon, the Dubois County Health Department said that a preliminary review of the all the patient’s previous close contacts had been identified and notified by the end of day on Sunday.
A close contact is identified as someone living in the same household with a person who is symptomatic, caring for that person, being within six feet of the person for ten minutes and being in direct contact with respiratory secretions such as coughing.
Authorities stress that social distancing and proper hand washing are the two best ways to avoid catching the coronavirus.
