Warrick County students are not going back to school this year but rather finishing out the semester online. But the new school format has left some families feeling short-changed.
When s picked up her sons from Newburgh Elementary School on March 13th she had no idea it would turn out to be the last day of school:
"No closure, no end of the year party, no good bye. Not to have all those things, it's almost like a grieving process"
A former teacher herself, she says she knows teachers still feel the need to take care of their students even though they can't be together.
That's why Sunday afternoon, Newburgh Elementary School staff organized something called a Wave Parade.
"They pulled in our neighborhood honking clapping waving. They wanted to show the kids, they didn't forget them, they didn't just drop them - it truly was a light in a big way for us in a time that is really confusing for our kids right now.”
Daughtery says her hope is that many years from now, her children look back on this time in a positive way and Sunday’s Wave Parade is something they will talk about for a long time.
