The EVSC and local Catholic schools will remain closed another two weeks, while USI and UE have joined Ivy Tech in extending online learning through the end of the semester.

Evansville School Superintendent David Smith told reporters at the Civic Center the school district will use some of the days provided by the state in response to the coronavirus outbreak…

"So that means the week of March 30th as well as the week of April 6th, the EVSC will remain closed. We will continue our feeding program but extracurricular activites, all practices, all things of that nature will continue to be closed."

USI President Ron Rochon said the university is extending its e-learning…

"We will begin that online instruction officially Monday, on March 23, and we will now extend that fully until the end of the spring semester."

Roshon said campus housing will close but arrangements will be made for students who have nowhere else to go. He also said USI’s commencement ceremony will be postponed.

UE President Christopher Pietruszkiewicz UE is also extending online-only learning through the end of the semester, as it faces what he called “an academic calendar within a public health crisis”…

"So once we decided to push beyond March 30th, March 27th, it made prudent sense for the university tocontinue its online learning platform."

Petraskevich said UE hasn’t made a decision yet on commencement ceremonies.

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke praised the collaboration of all the education leaders.
