Deaconess Suspending Elective Surgeries

File

The coronavirus pandemic has prompted Deaconess Health System to temporarily stop elective surgeries.

In a release, Deaconess said it’s halting all elective and non-urgent procedures and surgeries, beginning Wednesday.

The tentative resumption date is April 6th but Deaconess said it may be extended.

The health group says it’s taking the step to protect patients and healthcare workers, and to reduce the demand on critical supplies and staffing.

Deaconess said physicians are evaluating patients on a case-by-case basis, following recommendations from the CDC and the American College of Surgeons, to determine which surgeries should happen now and which ones can wait.

Patients are being contacted by their doctor’s office regarding postponed procedures.
