A Knox County Correctional Officer is accused of sexually assaulting an inmate from Henderson.
In a release, Indiana State Police say Correctional Officer Malyk Jawaun Johnson of Montgomery, Indiana was assigned to pick up a 37-year-old female inmate from the Henderson County Jail on February 17 and take her to Knox County to face criminal charges there.
The ISP said while traveling to Vincennes, the 23-year-old Johnson allegedly stopped at a gas station in Princeton and purchased a tobacco product for the inmate.
They got back on the road and after entering Knox County, Johnson allegedly pulled onto Stokley Road just off US 41 and sexually assaulted the inmate.
The ISP said the inmate reported the incident to her attorney, who then contacted the Knox County authorities.
Police said Johnson was arrested after he turned himself in at the Knox County Jail yesterday (Wed).
He was transferred to the Pike County Jail and faces charges of Sexual Battery, Official Misconduct, and Trafficking with an inmate.
