Mounts Retiring from Water and Sewer Dept.

File

The head of the Evansville Water & Sewer Utility is retiring.

Director Allen Mounts announced his retirement at Tuesday afternoon’s Utility Board meeting. His last day will be May 1st.

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke appointed Mounts as utility director at the beginning of his administration in 2012.

In a release, the city of Evansville said Winnecke and Mounts successfully negotiated the utility on a path to compliance with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The negotiations resulted in a long-term plan called Renew Evansville to improve the city’s sewer system and comply with the 1972 Clean Water Act.

In the release, Winnecke thanked Mounts for his vision and his “composed, insightful leadership through the first stages of Renew Evansville."

Mounts thanked his staff, whom he said “believes in public service."

He said he’s looking forward to spending more time with his six grandchildren and traveling with his wife.
