Firefighter, Deputy Coroner Faces Charges

File

An Evansville firefighter has been suspended and has lost his job as a Vanderburgh County deputy coroner.

Evansville Police arrested 47-year-old Christopher William LeDuc for allegedly taking money from the home of a deceased person.

In a release, the EPD said the victim’s family noticed money missing from the home and it was later discovered that LeDuc had written a voucher to the family for a total that was not consistent with the amount known to be at the home.

LeDuc faces charges including Official Misconduct and Theft. He was relieved of his duties as a part-time Vanderburgh County Coroner.

In a separate release, the Evansville Fire Department said LeDuc has been suspended without pay “pending the disposition of the case.”

Division Chief Mike Larson said LeDuc has been employed at the department for more than 22 years and has no history of disciplinary actions.
