A judge has sentenced a woman to 55 years in prison for the murder of an Evansville man.

Vanderburgh County Circuit Court Judge David Kiely  sentenced 36-year-old Tanika Stewart to 50 years for murder and 5 years for a firearm enhancement.

A jury convicted Stewart last month for the fatal shooting of Antonio Bushrod Jr. during a party in the 1500 block of South Morton.

During the trial, two men were arrested outside the courtroom following a heated argument during a break in the proceedings.

In a release, Prosecutor Nick Hermann praised Evansville Police who investigated the crime and expressed hope that family and friends of the victim feel a “sense of justice.”
