EFD: Small Fire at Berry Started in Plastics Grinder

File

A small fire at Berry Global apparently started in a plastics grinder.

Evansville firefighters were called to the Berry plant at 101 Oakley St.  Tuesday morning, after a worker spotted a fire in the grinder’s drive belt housing.

The employee pulled a fire alarm and employees evacuated the building.

In a release, EFD Division Chief Mike Larson said crews entered the confined space with two pressurized extinguishers.

They found the flames and put out the fire.

Larson said the only fire damage was to the belt housing and pulley.

Nobody was hurt.

Employees were allowed back in and work resumed at Berry.
